Hixter City

Let me start as I mean to go on – I really like this place! A Hubcaps club night out always means a good dinner and drinks with great company. For our pre-christmas meeting we chose the new-ish Hixter City, located in the hidden gem near Liverpool Street that is Devonshire Square.

The concept is nice and simple – chicken or steak. However, the result of the simple strategy is far from simple, it is one of plentiful, delicious, well-thought out options.

As you enter, you are greeted by friendly staff, who show you to your table. Or you can pop down to Mark’s Bar for an aperitif in the quirky basement bar. The décor is eclectic and cool, Imagine a 60’s warehouse conversion, and there is a great buzz in the atmosphere. (Although after dinner there was no one there!)

We started with some vino for the ladies and some Hix pale ale for the boys:

The Hix Bar Snax were a total hit!  We loved the HFC wings, probably even more so because of the name, and the giant yorkshires were so good I had them again as I walked through Taste of Winter not long after.

 

Mains were also good, with the chicken being more of a winner than the beef for me! Mr Old Fashioned’s piri piri chicken and Posh Scouse’s curry, were surprisingly tender and flavoursome. My steak was decent but nothing to write home about, and Buster and Babar were happy with their burgers.

 

We were getting pretty full but we had to try some dessert, so we went for two to share. The fondue was most definitely the winner!

After a long delicious dinner, we retired down to the bar, where apparently there is a private room hidden away for 26 people. We didn’t see that, but we did get some interesting drinks, including one served in a fish flask that I can’t remember the name of!

  

Hixter City is definitely a place with a bit of charm and character and more-ish food. If you are in the area, or near any of the other locations, drop in and treat yourself!
